Show Update #12- Cursive, The Blood Brothers, and Eastern Youth at the Trocadero
It started out that Dave came over my house, we hung out, i listened to some Cursive to get warmed up on lyrics. I didn't have to get in any mood, i've been in the mood for possibly years. Before the show i was getting so excited. So at around 5, we were off to pick up kacey and brian, which we did successfully.
Right before the on ramp, we were all talking and then my dad was like "BAH!" or something, and i looked and i saw these stupid fuckers cutting us off. Then i realized, wait a second, i recognize those people, it was yapes, kelsey, and alex in the back. I was like "Follow that van!" We caught up to them later on the highway and passed them. All of us just made goofy faces through the windows, but the only people who saw us were people we didn't know and they stared at us funny. Then i see yapes flipping out in the back of the van because he saw us or something. It was pretty rad.
We got there around 6, met up with the rest, got our tickets out and waited in line for about an hour. Kacey saw Joey and his dad at the front of the line, but it'd kind of been rude if we just were like "HEEYYY!!!!" and butt the whole line. Besides it wasn't that long of a line when we got there. Once we got in I bought myself a Cursive shirt and a Blood Brothers shirt. I wanted to get some Eastern Youth pins but i was too hesitant. Joined the crowd, spotted Joey and his dad up front in the middle, lucky guy.
So Eastern Youth started the show. To everyones surprise they were rockin. I mean they could barely speak english, so all their songs were in Japaneese. Once everyone got into the flow of things, you didn't need english too understand the emotion put into their songs. I mean according to my friends' and my experiences, the opening bands usually suck. That was not the case with Eastern Youth. The guy made many hand movements, screamed, and stressed his voice to act out what he was singing about. Everyone was cheering thanks to Yapes, and the band deserved it. Even their bassist was kick ass, he didn't use a pick, and used the whole bass instead of just the E string. Of course as someone later pointed out, to be going on tour with cursive and the blood brothers, they must be the best of the best from where they come from.
I'd been noticing that we were right on the edge of where a mosh would break out so i was getting ready for it to come any time. The Blood Brothers came on and right away a pit formed with huge guys and nasty moshers. I just had to go crazy, the Blood Brothers are so great. Not only do they have great voices, but they scream and they have a unique sound like no one else i know of. They mixed in crazy piano playing by one of the guitarists. Meanwhile the pit was going crazy. I either decided to jump in or i was thrown in by strangers and friends alike. There were some pricks who were kicking all over the place. Like one guy picked up another guy who started flailing about and kicking people in their heads. Another guy was headbutting people and started running towards me with his head aimed at my crotch. I side jumped up and landed on his back or head or something and he fell down, haha. There wasn't anyway you could just stand still during this set. You had to move your body to the beat, it just took control of you. And even with an already bruised rib i came out the least hurt. The Blood Brothers just had such an awesome live show, just like they have such an awesome cds.
The anticipation for Cursive, by now was to the extreme. I was so tired from the pit or the side of the pit that me and dave went to get drinks. Came back and then Tim Kasher and the rest came out.
So i had never seen any of the bands before, but Cursive looked completely different than what my image of them was. I mean Tim Kasher looked like Tim Kasher with a mustache, but the bassist and guitarist/back up vocals, looked polish. Also they had a female cellist, that supposedly is pretty good looking. The drummer just looked like some guy. This combination made the band the common person, which was awesome. They started rocking out and it was just great. The sweat soaking my shirt, the beat making me sway, the sound just making me go into a trance. I sang what i knew. I felt what i didn't know. I recognized all the songs (even the ones from the splits) except for the ones that were from their album not yet out. Cursive is just great, i really can't think of many other ways to describe them in one word. There is no criticism that can possibly be given to them. I understood the lyrics more in the show setting. I felt Tim Kasher's lyrics catching my mind and not wanting to let it go. I felt them peircing through my heart and leaving a residue that will always be with me. Moshes broke out to the harder songs. I joined some. I got pushed around by others. That wasn't what it was about for me though. I more enjoyed just listening and being taken up in the sound and sent into a trance. Tim Kasher would scream out his lyrics and i would follow suit. When people like Dave started doing crazy stuff, I was a little annoyed. I just wanted to be sucked up in the music and nod my head a little. Cursive is just so great.
We left the show around 11. Gathered up our groups. Said bye to different people. Found others. Expressed our enjoyment of the show. I didn't feel like leaving. I can't wait till the next show with bands like those.

ok heres what happend last night:
first, i headed over to alex's house where i met up with alex and kelsey, soon after that becca came over and we headed out to pick up some other girl. then we were off to philly.
on the way there, another van passes us and its holding none other than marshall, dave, brian and kc. that was wacky. so we get to a parking place and get out and meet up with the other guys. we wait in line for awhile, it was crazy cause we were in like china town or something and being that dave is asian he owned the place.
so we finally get inside, i quickly snag a blood brothers tshirt and a cursive tshirt and we get into the crowd. i saw grace and said hi. the first band was so cool, eastern youth, they were these asian guys who didn't speak english, well they knew some. their songs were great. we we're rocking out, and when it got quiet i just screamed "wooooooooooo!!" everyone looks at me and realizes the band is good and they all cheer. ha i know when to start a cheer. we moved up with some guys. the lead singer from eastern youth was like, "we are, very 'appy to be here on tour with da blood brothers and cursive, we are so proud". he had the accient and all, it was cool.
then blood brothers got ready to come on, but some morons were fighting and all. well me, alex, and dave wanted to mosh to them so bad so we were like "just push yapes around" and we did, everyone was going crazy, but i must say the people here mosh like dickheads, they were kicking people and punching hardcore. an example to how bad it was is I run in, get punched in the eye and kicked in the balls. but it was great. half way through their set i got real dizzy and snagged some water.
during all that moshing i messed up my wrist again, real bad. i know they want to have practice today but it hurts soo bad. i also bit my tongue super hard.
cursive came on and that was great. some guy was all bitching cause alex got shoved into him, dude, people bump into each other. deal with it.
im so sore right now, i shall end this post with what i learned last night
"gay guys in tight clothes know how to rock."

saturday, that was another big day. reason: cursive.
if you don't know cursive, i pity you. prior to the show i enlightened marshall about what pretty much all of tim's lyrics during and after domestica are about, and we had a fun time theorizing metaphors and such. i wish i could talk to tim kasher about it, but that might hurt his heart, so i think i'd refrain. anyway, kelsey said she could ride with alex so my dad and i just went solo. we got there extra early so we went to some wild mall/train station. then when we got back we found that the bouncer guy wasn't regulating line traffic so there was already a line. unfortunately, we were at the cut off area so i had to go back to the second partition area. however, my dad just walked past the guy and sneaked up in the front. hahahaha. so i walked down and he was like, hey where were you? the car was my answer. and from thence i sat down and wrote my english paper. it so happened the people in front of us had to buy tickets, so we were first on the floor and got direct center against the barrier again. oh yesss!
the first band was eastern youth. cursive's side of their split is particuraly good, thus i assumed they would be good. they were very funny and very loud. but they were good. haha. they are japanese and as such sing in japanese. it would have been extra cool if dave knew what they were saying, but he's chinese, so it didn't work out.
next were the blood brothers. to my disbelief they had two lead singers. that was wild. both of which scream/sang and were crazy. the blood brothers were really good though their pairing with cursive is kinda wacky, like bright eyes with converge or something. haha. but anyway, on one of the last songs the singer came down from the stage and went into the crowd. interestingly enough he decided to hop, more or less, on my dad. hahaha. but then he fell out of the crowd and onto the ground :-/. anyway, they were good.
then of course was the second best band in the world, cursive. and of course they were disgustingly good. and gretta cohn surely does play a mean cello. they played intro's differently and sang some of the songs differently too. it was interesting because they'd play a melody that you sort of know, but can't place, then just start singing the lyrics. haha. however, they were great, even if they didn't play excerpts. anyway, all in all, a good saturday night.
