Show Update #8- Saturday Night at the Trinity Cathedral

I rushed to this show from a wedding and made it in time for the second band. This was the second of shows that will be each month at the Trinity Cathedral. Again there were bands i hadn't heard, and liked a lot.

Band #1- Gangus Kon
Sadly I missed them this time. I heard they were very good, and played well together again. Also i heard they didn't cover "One Armed Scissor" by At the Drive In, but thats alright, change can be good.

Band #2- the Dissenters
I walked in when they were still setting up. I found my friends and stood and watched as they started their set. A very good band, they mixed a punk type style of drums and guitar with good lyrics and nice vocal combinations. One singer sang with a punk style voice, the other either sang real deep or screamed. Heh, they even had a Alto Saxaphone and i think a Tenor Saxaphone on stage, that battled back and forth. Also the guitarist kicked out some good ska chords that made a sweet noise. A couple times they switched up from fast to slow and sang more of sad song. The rest of the time they were playing hard, fast songs, good for dancing too. Also the bassist, even though he played with a pick, was very good at bass. I bought their promo cd, 3 pins and got a free sticker. I'll be happy to see them again.

Band #3- Sharky's Machine
At my window seat, sitting admiring the crowd, i wasn't really expecting a almost Southern accented, good speaking voice to come on the microphone. At first i was like "Huh?" and then it was really funny how he rolled his voice and tone. For some reason i thought they were a ska band, must've confused them with someone else. Anyway they played "punk rock", not punk, but punk rock. Very good vocals and musicianship. It was very entertaining when they announced their next song through weird riddles and stuff. And their guitarist had a sleek, transparent, devil-horned neck to his guitar. I really enjoyed myself, sitting there, listening to them. I would've bought merchandise if they had anything to sell.

Band #4- the Sidewalk Heroes
I walked out for their set, to get some fresh air and some pizza. Once again most of their songs sounded pretty much the same to me, when i was outside or inside alike. Every drum beat that their drummer cooked up sounded exactly the same with maybe a cymbal crash somewhere added in. They did sound a bit better this time though, in comparison to other shows. And their Misfits cover was good as usual. They are good musicians, no doubt about it, and they do play a pretty entertaining set (they don't just stand around looking at their toes), but i don't know, they just get old for me.

Band #5- the CryptKeeper Five
I had been preparing all day too see them. I listened to their CD "Trenton Makes" on the car ride home from the wedding, and sang along. I don't know why, but Crypt just brings something out of me, makes me forget about everything i worry about, about other people. Me and Joey walked to the front of the stage before Sidewalk Heroes had even gotten off stage. Some of Blue Madigan's groupies walked up and stood next to us. On the far right, of course, like usual, Sidewalk Heroes' drummer. The set began, when i knew a song, i sang it, loud and clear. Joey knew all the songs and probably attracted Johnny to give us the mic. Three times me and a large crowd of people sang into the mic that Johnny held to us. He also asked us to dance, and it seemed like he was talking to me and Joey, since he was looking right at me, so i skanked a bit for one of their songs. After their set had finished they let people make requests. One group yelled for "Roots and Radicals" by Rancid, i heard a couple people yell for "Born to Run" by Bruce Springsteen, and Joey requested "For You". First they covered Rancid, which for some reason, i honestly thought was Less than Jake, even though i knew all the words and sang along. For "For You" Johnny pulled Joey up to sing on stage along with them. It was a pretty cool thing to be a part of. CryptKeeper not only plays great music, but i think they are the best at getting crowd participation.

Lets Review:
I love shows with great beginnings and freeking awesome endings. This show was a great one, (I liked how never the less wasn't there, and even more indecent was just in the crowd).
